Workshop on Gender Equity in Recreation and Community Sport 

 

When: Tuesday, February 20, 2024
Full-day workshop sessions from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm
Social, light refreshments, and dinner (4:00 am to 5:30 pm) followed by a panel discussion (5:30 pm to 7:30 pm).

 

Where: Yukon Transportation Museum, 30 Electra Crescent (next to the airport)

 

Cost: Registration is free. Meals and light refreshments are included. Travel expenses are covered for attendees from outside Whitehorse, based on a first come first serve basis. Expenses covered include hotel, flights or mileage (at a rate of $.61/km), and meals outside of the workshop. Please register by January 31st if you would like travel expenses covered and confirm funding availability with the Recreation & Parks Association of the Yukon (RPAY).

 

Who should attend: This workshop is for anyone supporting recreation and sports programs at any level in any community. This includes recreation leaders, coaches, administrators, facility designers, program planners, and more! The evening Panel has been scheduled such that volunteers, coaches, and officials from the sports community can attend. The Panel will highlight a variety of approaches to gender equity while allowing ample time for questions and discussion.

 

About: RPAY, in partnership with the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association (CPRA), and the Yukon Government Sport and Recreation Branch, is excited to announce they are hosting this workshop on building inclusive recreation and sports communities for women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals.

 

Expert presenters will facilitate an exploration of how the decisions we make regarding facilities and programming impact the participation of women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals in recreation and sport. This workshop is an excellent learning opportunity for northerners involved in supporting recreation and sports programs at any level, in any community.
